While looking for old photos, I came across an old Jr. High school newspaper from 1958 when we were in the 9th grade.  Because there are many notes written on it and the print is so small, it would not scan well.  Anyway, I thought the following would be of interest to everyone:(copied exactly as written) Rosalie

Here's an article about Mud Vacation

The Junior and Senior High students of
Grand Rapids enjoyed a two week mud vacation.  The sneak preview of summer vacation began on Friday April 12.  Many plans for outdoor vacations were spoiled because of rain and cloudy cold weather.  In spite of the weather many good times were experienced!  On Tuesday morning April 23 the reluctant returned to the "old grind".

(I was so glad to see this, because when I tell people we had MUD VACATION, they look at me like I'm nuts)

We had opinions about the Middle East in 1958.  Copied as written, spelling and all....

Middle East Chrisis

Mike Moren held the opinion that
Nasser acted unwisely when he tried to take the Suez Canal by force.  Mike stated that if Nasser would have waited he would have acquired it in 1967.  He felt that Egypt made a mistake by blocking the passageway to the Suez Canal when she sunk the ships there.

A girl from the 7-4 section thinks that the
U.S. should stay neutral if Egypt and Israel start fighting again.  She stated if we sided with either country, the other would feel offended.

The following was written by Sue Pennala for Seelings

The Chase

Last year when our family went on our trip to
Montana, an amusing incident happened.
I was new to the ranch life.  My first job was to feed the turkeys.  I thought tje job to be a particularly ease one, even for a city slicker, as we were often called.
As I went out the door they yelled a warning, something about the gobbler but I was too interested in what task lay ahead of me to even listen.  So the warning went without any notice.
As I was feeding the turkeys and admiring their beauty my eye caught on a huge, beautiful, proud looking bird. At my first glance he facinated me.  I approached him rather cautiously then with a loud noise he ran at me flapping his wings.  I didn't know what to do.  I ran as fast as I could, with him close at my heels, to the nearest tree.  I couldn't make it to the first branch!  With him almost on top of me I ran to the stream.  With all my clothes on I plunged into the water.  I waded across to the opposite bank.  Soaking wet I sat on the bank, quite out of breath.  I watched the gobbler stalk proudly away.
The rest of my vacationI was "aware of the gobbler".
